The advantages of Asian Handicap
· With Asian Handicap you bet on two outcomes-known as Favourite or Underdog- instead of the traditional three of home, draw or away as with fixed odds betting. This fact alone means that you have a 50% better chance of winning than when betting with traditional odds.
· Because you have a better chance of winning a bet, the possibility of long loosing runs can be reduced which can help many gamblers maintain their confidence.
· Because of shorter loosing runs it may, if you are brave, enable you to adopt large stakes, in actual fact many high rollers bet in 1000’s when betting Asian Handicap! Definitely not recommended for the novice!
· With Asian Handicap it is possible to win even if your team draws or looses the match! This is because the underdog is normally given a positive handicap and the favourite would have to overcome this handicap if it is to be declared the winner.
The disadvantages of Asian Handicap
· The bookmakers are not fools and because your chances of winning a bet with Asian Handicap are much better compared to traditional fixed odds betting, reduced odds are offered, but remember you have a 50% better chance of winning a bet when compared to traditional odds
· Fewer bookmakers offer Asian Handicap odds and there-fore possibly the market place is not as competitive which may be reflected in the odds available.
Basics
· With Asian Handicap you bet on the Favourite or Underdog, that is two outcomes as apposed to three home, away or draw when using traditional fixed odds betting.
· To compensate for the Underdogs lack of ability it is given a positive handicap, which the favourite would have to overcome to be declared the winner.
· The handicap is designed to eliminate the difference in ability between the teams and thus make the matches much more competitive.
· The greater the conceived ability between the two teams the greater will be the handicap. For example, if a favourite is expected to win a match by say 2 goals it would be given a negative handicap of -2 and the underdog would be given a positive handicap of +2. The favourite has now to overcome the handicap before it can be declared the winner, even it ‘wins’ the match say 1-0 it is still regarded as the looser! Because it has failed to overcome the -2 handicap.
· Typical handicaps are +/- 0, +/- 0.5, +/- 1, +/-1.5, +/- 2.0, +/- 2,5 etc These are standard handicaps and standard rules apply.
· There are also special handicaps +/- 0.25, +/- 0.75, +/- 1.25, +/- 1.75 etc and these are known as split handicaps or quarter handicaps and special rules are applied.
Examples
Now you are familiar with Asian Handicap basics, the best way to understand how it works is work thru a few simple examples.
Example A: Brazil v England
Full handicaps
With full handicaps (0, 1.0, 2.0 etc) you can not only win or loose the bet but also the bet can be declared void in which case your full stake would be returned.
The handicapper regards Brazil 2 goals superior to England and expects Brazil to win the match by 2 goals, so the following handicaps are awarded:
Brazil (-2) v England (+2)
You regard England as a good bet and so bet England.
If the result is Brazil 1 England 0
You win the bet even thou in reality England lost. The important thing is that Brazil failed to overcome the -2 handicap.
If the result is Brazil 0 England 0
You win the bet. Brazil have not overcome the handicap.
If the result is Brazil 2 England 2
You win the bet. Brazil have not overcome the handicap.
If the result is Brazil 2 England 0
The match is regarded as a draw and the bet void and your stake would be returned.
If the result is Brazil 3 England 1
The match is regarded as a draw and the bet is void and your stake would be returned
Example B: France v Germany
Half handicaps.
With half handicaps (0.5, 1.5, 2.5 etc) a draw is impossible and you will either win or loose the bet.
The handicapper regards France 0.5 goals superior to Germany and expects France to win the match so the following handicaps are awarded
France (-0.5) v Germany (+0.5)
You regard Germany as a good bet and so bet Germany.
If the result is France 1 Germany 0
You loose the bet France have won the match and have also overcome the handicap.
If the result is France 0 Germany 0
You win the bet.
If the result is France 2 Germany 2
You win the bet.
If the result is France 2 Germany 0
You loose the bet.
If the result is France 3 Germany 1
You loose the bet
Example C: Spain v Italy
Quarter handicaps.
With quarter handicaps (0.25, 0.75,1.25,1.75, 2.25 etc) special rules apply. Although quarter handicaps are one bet, to get a better idea of how they work try to imagine them as two bets at two different handicaps. For example imagine the example shown below to be two bets one a +/- 0 and another bet at +/- 0.5 your stake being equally split between the two bets.
The handicapper regards Spain 0.25 goals superior to Italy and expects Spain to win the match so the following handicaps are awarded
Spain (-0.25) v Italy (+0.25)
You regard Italy as a good bet and so bet Italy.
If the result is Spain 1 Italy 0
You loose the bet Spain have won the match and have also overcome the handicap.
You would loose your full stake.
If the result is Spain 0 Italy 0
You win the bet, but only to half your stake. The other half of your stake is returned
If the result is Spain 2 Italy 2
You win the bet, but only to half your stake. The other half of your stake is returned
If the result is Spain 2 Italy 0
You loose the bet. Your full stake is lost
If the result is Spain 3 Italy 1
You loose the bet. Your full stake is lost.
