This is the thread for discussions about Ajax contracters loaned out to other clubs, such as Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam (Celta de Vigo), Nikos Machas (Sevilla FC), Richard Knopper (Aris Saloniki), Cedric van der Gun (Willem II), Pius Ikedia (FC Groningen), Youssouf Hersi (NEC), Kwame Quansah, Anthony Obodai and Walker Fronio (Germinal Beerschot Antwerp), etcetera.
How are they doing at their new clubs? And should Ajax have them back?

I've read today that Van der Gun will return to Ajax this summer and that Hersi will not be really welcomed...
Good decision or not ?

Several websites are indeed reporting that Cedric van der Gun , he of 6 goals this season to date, will be returning to Ajax. Coach Koeman is quoted as saying that he is impressed by van der Gun's play this season . He also says that he hasn't had the opportunity to coach the player and is "curious" to do so.
The report of Ajax not wishing Yousef Hersi to return to Ajax are also written of on several sites. The good news is that at least three sites(Ajax Netwerk, Footballnl.com, and Sporting Life seem to agree that NEC want to make the player move permanent.I for one feel that Ajax has a very talented central midfield as it is; Sneijder, Pienaar, sometimes Galasek, and de Ridder probably coming along next season to name but 4 choices.

Sometimes Galasek - this season the word sometimes hasnt come into it - I would say all of the time should be used - this guy has been fantastic this season - the most consistent player in the team.
My player of the season without doubt.

Well Betrand you will just have to believe it - going forward he is a terrific player, but defensively .........well let us put it this way - he is terrific going forward.
Good example of his lapses in defence - PSV away where he failed to control a high ball (not for the first time this season) and then lunged at the PSV player to give away the penalty.
One of the games a while ago Koeman played de Jong at full back and Trabelsi as an attacking wing-back - thought this worked really well and I am surprised that it hasnt been tried since.

Do our friends in Belgium know how well our loan players at GBA have performed this year.
Last season, I was really impressed with Walker and thought that he could make the step up.
One of the other loanees that wasnt specifically mentioned in the list was Kraas who has been loaned out to Zwolle. Yet again does anyone know how he has performed this season - thought
he had a really good game against Ajax in the Arena early on in the season.

Vak 425, I haven't really followed GBA, but I do know that they've had a dreadful season. In fact, they're still having a dreadful season, as they're fighting relegation. I know that Kwame Quansah has been disappointing (he got into a few conflicts with the coaching staff and walked away a couple of times). Not sure about Walker and Obodai, except that they couldn't stop the bleeding.
As for Ruud Kras: I don't know what's wrong with him, but I haven't seen him in the FC Zwolle line-up for several weeks... He did play 25 games for them this season, according to VI.nl.

I can tell you about a player on loan with AJax. Mendes da Silva fromSparta will not be bought acoording to Ajax.nl.
I don't know what I think about it, to be honest I haven't seen one minute of play from that guy. I know he's supposed to be a talent but beyond that nothing more. Anyone seen more of him? Good decision or bad one to let him go?

By the way: Ajax and NEC (opponents this upcoming Sunday) have started their talks about Youssouf Hersi. He will not return to Amsterdam, as Ajax doesn't need a 'number ten' right now, with Litmanen, Van der Vaart, Pienaar, Sneijder and Seedorf in the squad.
NEC would like to keep him in Nijmegen for at least one more year. However, the problem seems to be that Ajax wants to sell him, rather than loaning him out for another year. NEC is said to be interested in buying Hersi, but doesn't seem to have the money (what else is new?)
To be continued...

RTV Noord, regional radio and TV station for the northern Netherlands, announced that Ajax and FC Groningen have reached an agreement on another year's loan of Pius Ikedia to the Groningen side. The Nigerian winger will play in Oosterpark Stadium during the 2003-2004 season, after which his Ajax contract will expire. FC Groningen has already offered him a two-year contract from the 2004-2005 season onwards.
Ajax initially did not want to loan Ikedia out for another season. The Amsterdammers only wanted to sell, in order to receive a tranfer fee for him. Next season he will walk out for free. But apparently there was no interest in the speedy Nigerian.
More news on Ajax loanees: I read in a reliable source (don't exactly remember which one, but it was a good newspaper; Het Parool, I think) that Ajax has announced that none of the Germinal Beerschot Antwerp loanees will return to Ajax-1 next season. They are: Walker Fronio, Anthony Obodai, Daniel Cruz, Kwame Quansah and Aaron Mokoena.

Hmmm... VI.nl now reports that Daniel Cruz and Anthony Obodai will stay at GBA for at least another year, but that Walker and Kwame Quansah will return to Ajax. The report doesn't say to which team. Probably not Ajax-1. A return to Young Ajax seems more likely... As for Aaron Mokoena: Ajax wants to sell him this summer. If that doesn't happen he can also stay in Antwerp.
As long as this kind of contradictions circulate we will not publish a news report about it. Stay tuned to this thread, tho...

AJax.nl reports that Pius Ikedia will play for RBC Roosendaal for the next two seasons. It looked like he may stay in Groningen another year but, according to the article, a two year loan arrangement was reached with the Roosendaal side.He has scored once in 25 games so far this season.

Omroep Gelderland, local radio station for the Gelderland province (Arnhem/Nijmegen area), announced that Youssouf Hersi will be loaned out to NEC for one more season. He already played there this season.
