No reason in particular to start this thread, except that he's one of my favourites in the team right now - and that I just bought my new Ajax away jersey with #18: SNEIJDER. Yes Sir.

Has he already been capped, I seem to remember something last season... just how old is he exactly?
Sneijder for captain is what I say. Surely next season when VDV buggers off Wesley is the number one choice to continue the trend of young captains?

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports that Ajax has offered Wesley Sneijder an improved contract that will tie him to Ajax until 2007. No confirmation by Ajax yet, but it wouldn't surprise me and - obviously - it would be a very good thing.

It has now been confirmed by Ajax.nl: Wesley has signed an improved contract. His original contract also expired in 2007, but he will make much more money from 01 January 2004 onwards. News report to appear on Ajax USA later today!

Wesley Sneijder will be suspended for the RKC Waalwijk fixture due to accumulated yellow cards. He received most of them for either mouthing off or kicking the ball away out of frustration. This is one of Wesley's problems, especially now he has lost his form and is obviously very frustrated with himself.
I think it's a very good thing that he's suspended. This guy needs to be protected from himself right now - and this is a good excuse for Koeman to leave him out of the team for a week. He needs some time to think and to put the past weeks in perspective.
VDV will be fit for the RKC game. He seems ready for it and will do the job, I'm sure. This is the time for Wesley Sneijder to make a step back and take it easy for a while. Things have gone a little bit too fast for him in the past six months. He's now paying the toll for it, so it seems.
But he deserves our support. He's younger than the average Young Ajax player and we know what his qualities are. He'll be alright.

Happy birthday to you...
Happy birthday to you...
Happy birthday dear WESLEY...
Happy birthday to you!
Twenty years old! My Gawd, he's ageing. His Oranje team-mates sang a birthday song for him in Portugal today.
Funny: how many more birthdays will this chap celebrate far away from home, wearing a KNVB training suit...?
It's like Tomás Galásek, who usually celebrates his birthday during the winter break training camp. A Czech who lives in Tilburg, plays in Amsterdam and celebrated recent birthdays in Qatar and Portugal...
