This is the place to discuss Ajax's formidable left back and/or left midfielder: Maxwell Scherrer Cabelino Andrade, simply known as Maxwell.

I will kick this thread off by saying: happy 22nd birthday, Maxwell. Let's celebrate it tonight, with 50,000 Ajax fans.

He's my fave (along with SQD) that's all !!! Elegant, stylish, technically gifted, really versatile, what can I say ??? He's the best !! I'd love to see more players like him in the team.

I know many of you don't agree with me but I've always preffered him as a left back. Not that he at all has been bad further up the field but I feel we get alot of skill along a longer line of that part of the pitch when he playes there.

He's not much of a finisher either (from what I've seen). Many times I've been disappointed with him missing good opportunities close to the goal.

I agree with Bertrand that he's top quality, and wherever K-man decides to put him - he'll be where I prefer him firstly - on the pitch!

Maxwell extends contract! Post #4

Excellent news on Ajax Netwerk!

Amsterdam TV network AT5 reports today that Ajax and Maxwell have agreed on the extension of his contract until the summer of 2006. His original contract would have expired this summer. There is no confirmation on Ajax.nl yet. We will publish a news report when that's the case.

But AT5 is generally reliable, so I'm sure this is true. Great news.

Ajax is still talking to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. These talks are slightly more difficult, but Arie van Eijden recently said that he expects Zlatan to also sign a new contract. The only one who will leave almost certainly is Trabelsi.

Excellent news indeed!!! i really like Maxwell and JOB operating the left side of Ajax...with the two of them on the pitch Ajax can play even without a left winger! i wonder what is the reaction now of the clubs thats chasing Maxwell

According to Planet football today Maxwell has not agreed to the extension and he could leave for nothing at the end of the season. This does not sound too good.

Ajax have got to stop these extensions and renew contracts at least 18 months before they end.

We are now faced with losing both Trabelsi and Maxwell for nothing because of these so called ' extension deals.' They appear to be one sided in favour of Ajax and if challenged in court would probably be invalid.

Player of the Year Post #7

Maxwell has been voted Player Of The Year in the Eredivisie by his united Eredivisie colleagues, during the annual gala night of the Union of Contract Players (VVCS). And he deserved it, no doubt about it. Congratulations, Max.

Also: Johnny Heitinga was voted Talent of the Year. Club of the Year was SC Heerenveen and Coach of the Year (drumroll), that's right folks... Co Adriaanse! Good for him.

I think I'll write a news report about this one later on (although I don't give a living crap about this kind of 'player awards'... I mean who cares? Football is about primary trophies, such as the Champions League cup and the championship, which you can in an 'objective' way, namely by scoring more goals than the opposition in every match. Secondary prizes - 'subjective' ones, based on voting - are totally irrelevant to me in the field of sports. I mean, I just don't see the point. It's not literature, or music or a Miss Universe contest. In those fields you need this type awards, because it's the only option. But in sports you can actually win trophies in an objective way, so secondary prizes are complete bollocks to me in sports. But maybe that's just me, so I'll do my duty as Editor of Ajax USA... )

Congratulations to Maxwell! This honor is well deserved.A true pleasure for me to watch him play on occasion.Absolutely one of the most stylish players I have ever seen. Stylish in a deadly efficient ,steady as a rock kind of way. And while it will be a very sad day when he leaves ,honors like this don't hurt is value.

Maxwell was briefly interviewed by AT5 after today's RBC game and he was asked about rumours that he will move to Juventus in January. Maxwell said that he will finish the season in Amsterdam, no matter what. In addition to that, Ronald Koeman told in front of the camera that a Maxwell departure in the winter-break is "absolutely out of the question".

From Goal.com......

Maxwell Set For New Ajax Deal

In-demand Ajax midfielder Maxwell is close to signing an improved contract with the club.
The deal will not keep him in Amsterdam any longer than his current contract (2006), but it will guarantee the club a substantially higher transfer fee should he be sold next summer.

"I expect that we can put pen to paper within 10 days,” Maxwell’s agent Mino Railoa told www.vi.nl.

Juventus have been linked with the player.

I wasn't aware that Maxwell's agent is Mino Raiola. He is the one who brought Nedved to Juventus and Zlatan to Juventus. It will probably only be a matter of time before we see Maxwell there then....I just hope that we get a lot out of it.

I really hurts me that after loosing Zlatan we are likely to loose my favourite player again.....to a 1-0 Italian side....again...

Mino Raiola is quoted saying that Maxwell leave at the end of the season, most likely to Juve. Roma and Inter also are interested, according to Raiola. I hope he leaves this summer rather than on a Bosman in 2006.

My not-so-educated guess is that Ajax will indeed let Maxwell go in summer 2005.Just hope we don't settle for a player we don't really want, Igor Tudor come on down, or a Zlatanesque payment plan. I think Trabelsi will also leave, similar contract window I believe. And while Ajax have the broom out, Anastasiou, possibly Grygera(if he can get healthy and show a suitor what he can do), and Raffi-Enigma van der Vaart.Ajax may drive me crazy at times but,off the pitch at least, they are never boring.

i believe maxwell, trabelsi, and van der vaart all have contracts expiring in the summer of 06, so expect all 3 to leave.

The item posted on Ajax Netwerk re: playing time shows just how important Mad Max is. 1,966 minutes played, most minutes on the club. Nigel de Jong is next of the few players listed...on 1,826 minutes...followed by Sneijder(1593), Van der Vaart(1556), en Heitinga(1374).
