Yes - there it is: a discussion thread for Johnny, 'Defender of the Future'!
His contract with Ajax was extended until 2007 and financially improved today. A news report will appear on Ajax USA soon. Post al your thoughts on Heitinga in this thread!

SQD + Heitinga is like a RSA 1024 bytes code key, you can't pass through (Well I'm doomed...22 and already doing those old school informatics engineer jokes )

With Stam,De Boer,Overmars and presumably (read hopefully) a host of other old players retiring after euro2004, it's time to look forward for the dutch team.
It's quite obvious the Oranje have the attacking talent coming through. The real question is, can Johnny H step in and replace Stam?
Because I see bugger all soccer games, I don't feel I can make informed judgements on players (though of course I can occasionally try to). So can someone tell me, Can Heitinga fill the void left by Stam for the WC2006 qualifiers? Or with Stam gone, can we expect the Dutch defence to have more holes than a Swiss cheese?

Johnny is a totally different player than Stam, so it's hard to compare them. He's the kind of defender that would play alongside a Stam-type, rather than instead of him. He's not as big and not as strong as Stam, but faster and a much better passer. He will be a great defender for Holland, no doubt. In the current Holland squad, Stam's direct replacement would have to be Bouma - and I actually think he's done very well so far.

Yup Bouma kicks ass, no doubt. But the defence is still a problem for the future...

I just hope the dutch toss out the old guard and put in a defence like
bouma-heitinga-de jong along with some young promising left back.
i think, with the Czechs in the qualifying group again, Holland is pretty much doomed to the playoffs again, so use the games to blood new talent.

This is on Tribal Football.com at the moment - and they're quoting Italian sports broadsheet Tuttosport as the source.
Quote: Juventus are considering a move for Ajax defender John Heitinga. After failing in bids to land Arsenal centre-half Sol Campbell and Bayern Munich's Sammy Kuffour, Juve are now turning their attentions to Heitinga, says Tuttsport.
Juve enjoy a good relationship with Ajax and have been following Heitinga's progress over the last 12 months. AC Milan are also tracking the teenager, with chief scout Cesare Maldini having watched him at Euro2004.
The original report is here:

I personally don't believe it. Tribal Football publish so much crap... They always run very short news reports of this kind and it just never happens. They don't even archive their stuff: the link will become inactive in a few days. I won't even put it up as a news link on Ajax USA. It's soooo NOT interesting, really.

Agree with the previous post on all counts.Tribal Football subscribe to the old "throw mud at the wall and see what sticks philosophy" . Can see Heitinga leaving before 2007, so he doesn't leave on a Bosman ,but not now.
Also, if Kevin Hofland is fit, perhaps he will play in the center. This would allow the coaches the flexibility of playing Heitinga at the the #2, a position he has played before at National Team level. And then , to move him inside when Nigel de Jong is brought on at #2.

i hope Johnny can bounce back from this form crisis...maybe Koeman can play him at right back where he really made an impression during Euro2004. when Trabelsi "finally" leaves us im sure he will fit in there.
Heitinga---Grygera---Escude---JOB
thats not bad for a defence huh?!
anyways...Form is only temporary Class is permanent! Go Johnny! Go Ajax!!!!!!!

De Jong - Heitinga - SQD - JOB

Yeah, me too. In the long run, that is. For now I agree with Koeman that he benched De Jong and Heitinga. They've been terrible in recent months. Things have developed very fast for these chaps (Ajax-1, Oranje, Euro 2004, Champions League...). A little bit too fast, probably, so they need a break. Just a few weeks on the bench to think stuff over and to see things in the right perspective.
For Sunday Koeman must stick to Grygera and SQD. That's the best thing for now.
