My Gawd! No discussion thread for Nicolae Mitea yet...?
What a disgrace. Here it is. Let me start by explaining how his name is pronounced...
According to the guy himself his first name can be pronounced either as [KNEE-cola] (skipping the i) or as [Knee-colai] (pronouncing the 'ai' at the end like you pronounce 'I' in 'I will').
Most Ajax fans pronounce his second name stressing the middle syllable: [Mee-TAY-ah]. He says he likes that and urges us to keep it up, but it's not the correct Romanian pronounciation. In Romania they would stress the first syllable, like so: [MEE-tay-ah].
The stadium speaker at the ArenA thinks he's got it right, but he's mistaken. He totally swallows the 'a' at the end, saying: [MEE-tuh]. Which makes no sense, but the guy is stubborn, so it seems like we'll have to get used to three versions.

Mitea is a brilliant player, so full of speed and skill, but above all the audacity to pull off risky moves on defenders. He who dares wins, after all. I heard he wasn't in too good form against Feyenoord, which is a pity as the last few months he's been in fine form, skipping past defender after defender. It's not for nothing that I have his shirt on my back

I was sure that we were going to agree on something dude. And we agree BIG time !!! I absolutely love Mitea !! He's as fast as the light, as tiny as an ant but as efficient as Maradona in Medellin. Love that guy !!!

Bye-bye Soetaers or Sikora. Mitea is just too much of a threat to sit.I like Sikora but I like Ajax playing it's 11 best more.Mitea is definitely THE #11 in my eyes...and I am an unapologetic Sikora fan.

It's funny. In his first months at Ajax Mitea had toruble adjusting to the physical intensity of Ajax training (and highest level football in general, as he had only played nine first team games in Romania when he arrived). he played well, but was usually exhausted after 30 minutes or so.
For that reason Koeman usually started with Sikora, our 'mad dog', who had orders to chase the right fullback, bite his ankles like a pibtull and drive him absolutely insane. Sikora can do that. He's like a dog who will fetch a stick if you throw one.
Koeman would then replace Sikora by Mitea on the hour, so that Mitea could take full advantage of the tired right fullback for 30 minutes. This strategy has been very effective a few times...
Mitea is quite obviously the better player, tho, so if he's physically ready for a full game he should be played, no doubt.

ive watched a lot of ajax on tv this season. i agree mitea looks like he has some potential. not in the same bracket as ddr. he is the first player ive seen who has been able to mimick the best crossing technique of david beckham.

To be honest (and I'm a great fan of Mitea), crossing is not his strong point. Soetaers has the best cross in the squad (athough it helps if you can actually get past the full back), Mitea is great because of the way he gets past players with such speed and skill.
I've been thinking a lot about our wingers, why they seem to all be not doing so well...they're too isolated. They are left on their own, 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 with the opposition. Having watched the Ajax team of '95 on Eurosport recently, I noticed how the wingers then (Finidi and Overmars) were played one-twos and combined a lot with the other players. Getting past a player consistently is the hardest thing to do in football, that's why Mitea has so much potential. The full-back always has the advantage, it's much easier to defend a player than get past a player (I can testify, having played as left-back and left-winger). If your wingers are fast and have a good cross (Soetaers), don't leave him isolated on the wing, play one-twos with him. Same for Sikora. Ajax fans always expect their players to get past the full-back with ease every time, but this is unrealistic. Very few players in modern-day professional football, can do this consistently.

Just as with the center forward position, it appears we have a potential 3-headed monster at LW.Or a 2 headed one anyway. Mitea is certainly the fast and most lethal.I'll never forget his goal v.PSV. I don't think I've ever seen a player pounce on a chance so fast.Quicksilver lightning. And possesed of a motor that certainly brings energy and style to the club and raises the excitement level of the support.
Sikora is the junkyard dog who will run till he drops and will harass his opponents until he has nothing left. I think Sikora is capable of the 1-2 style described.I saw such plays first hand v. ADO,one resulting in the 2:0 on the day.I think Sikora is also capable of the great cross or thru pass.Witness his effort ,three assists, at Groningen in his first year at Ajax.
I think Soetaers can be a solid winger but he has been injured so much that it's impossible to know.I'd grade him I for incomplete.I do know he was productive at Roda.
One last thing about our left wings, Ajax Netwerk includes Mitea and Soetaers on its list of injured only two days before a very BIG fixture.

Oh well, it's better timing than Zlatan's groin surgery in January:

Glad to hear the injury is not serious.Groin and hamstring injuries linger if not treated so I'm glad Ajax is being so aggressive in correcting the problem;especially when it involves such magnificent talent as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nicolae Mitea.Hope Mitea can put a stranglehold on the number 11 spot come July.

Glad to see he had his scoring boots on.Ajax will need to look far and wide to replace the 17 goals just lost thru stupidity.Mitea had seven last year I believe.Anything close would be great.
