First training Post #2

Ajax's first team will go back in training on Wednesday. Obviously, the Euro 2004 participants (Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Heitinga, Zlatan, Galásek, Grygera) will get an extra week off. Steven Pienaar and Hans Vonk played a few games with South-Africa in recent weeks, but will be there for the first training.

The first training session will not (like in recent years) take place at the ArenA training pitches, but (an old, but recently interrupted tradition) in the Amsterdamse Bos, Amsterdam's 'city forest', south-west of town towards Schiphol Airport. It will start at 10:30 and the team will focus on running.

First pre-season friendly fixture: Saturday, 15:00 CET, at FC Omniworld in Amsterdam's 'commuter suburb' of Almere.

QPR 21 st July

I phoned the club today to be told Ajax fans are likely to be allocated the away end called School Road End . However the box office line was busy and I will try again tomorrow to confirm this.

I do know that tickets will be £ 15 Adults.

I have looked up the official site WWW.QPR.co.uk and this states Tickets to the general public do not go on sale until this THURSDAY 8TH JULY.

Switchboard no 020-8743-0262

Box Office no for tickets 0870-112-1967

I will phone them tomorrow to confirm we have the away stand and can get tickets on the day.I will post this as soon as I confirm.

I know Andy is going to this game ,who else is going and which is a good pub to meet in. Andy mentioned a Dutch pub?

I am not likely to go to Luton game but hope to meet a few of you at QPR

I am not going to the QPR game,as going to the friendly the preceeding Saturday in Huizen, but going to Luton.
Don't think that any of the "Cloggies" are over this year.

This Cloggie, for example, will be in Kenya when the games are played...

I am thrilled about my first visit to Africa, of course, but I must say I really am very sorry to miss the U.K. friendlies... Will make up for it next year!

What place in Kenya are you visiting? I myself might (not sure yet) be going to Nairobi in October for a business trip to the Aid & Trade fair.

We'll be travelling. This is the itinerary (roughly): inbound flight to Nairobi, stay there for a day and a half, then move on to Mount Kenya, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru National Park, Masai Mara National Park, back to Nairobi. From there we'll travel to Mombasa and spend a few days at Diani Beach. Then we'll fly home (from Mobasa, via Nairobi) after 16 days.

It's an organized trip, but one known as an 'adventurous group trip' of the type that obnoxious, annoying tourist-type people would never sign up for. It's almost guaranteed to be a rather positive selection of people. We'll be going to several parks and reserves where individuals aren't even allowed in (only groups).

Five more nights' sleep and I'm off...

Lindgren / Maduro Post #9

Ajax.nl reports that the vacations of Rasmus Lindgren and Hedwiges Maduro have been made one week shorter... This is not a penalty but a reward: they will go in training with the first team on Wednesday and will get playing time in some of the pre-season fixtures. Their addition to the A-squad must be regarded as a try-out. They are not (yet) official members of the first selection.

Good for them anyway. I haven't seen enough of Maduro yet, but Lindgren has totally convinced me last season. He'll make it, for sure.

Bill's not going, Menno's not going...well anyways, whoever IS going, I've been told that the area around the QPR stadium is a bit desolate (not many pubs, my brother said), so what I suggest is that anyone meeting up before the game go to Notting Hill or something (that's what my brother said), have a drink at a pub there, and then take the tube two stops to White City, the nearest one to the QPR game.

Steve I'm sorry, but my brother is off to Finland tomorrow (which he so helpfully didn't tell me when I visited him a week ago), and won't be back till the 24th, so he's not going and can't get any tickets. To add to his uselessness, he said go to Notting Hill but he couldn't give me the name of any pubs. I'll try asking some other people, if you do the same we might get the names of some good pubs somewhere. I'll keep you posted.

For Andy and the other folks who will be going to the QPR and/or Luton games: as usual the best ground information (including pub recommendations!) can be found on the fantastic Internet Football Ground Guide.co.uk website.

Here's their profile of Kenilworth Road stadium of Luton Town:

And here's QPR's Loftus Road stadium:

(These URLs are a bit odd, but the homepage for the website is http://www.footballgroundguide.co.uk/ )

For those going to the Luton game, the drinking establishment for pre-game cocktails has already been selected where a few of us are meeting up (its not one mentioned on the above web-site).
If you are interested then send me a PM.
