The first Amstel Cup fixture for Ajax's first team is still far away, but let's not forget that we have three teams in this season's Amstel Cup competition: Ajax-1 (who will enter the competition in the third round in November/December or so), Young Ajax and the great Ajax Saturday amateurs!! For the latter two cup action will start as early as on 07 August. Have your say in this thread, ladies and gents!

Disappointing news: Young Ajax crashed out of the Amstel Cup 10 minutes ago. They lost to Hoofdklasse ('Top Class') amateur side Rohda Raalte: 2-1. There's not much info yet, but I know that Ajax dominated throughout and missed an amazing number of chances. Rohda took an early lead (07'), Stanley Aboraa levelled the score in the 19th minute, after which Young Ajax missed one chance after the other. Rohda was about to collapse, but made it 2-1 on a counter-attack, deep into the second half. A disappointing start for new Ajax coaches John van den Brom and Fred Grim.
Match report will appear on Ajax USA later...

No excuses about focusing on the Amstel Cup now. Lousy result.Hopefully Jong Ajax players will be plenty angry and will take it out on Beloften Competitie opposition.

Time for some Amstel Cup football!
The third round games are on the agenda for this week...
E = Eredivisie
F = First Division
A = amateur
R = reserves team
Tuesday, 20:00 CET
ADO Den Haag (E) vs Emmen (F)
Go Ahead Eagles (F) vs Roda JC (E)
Helmond Sport (F) vs TOP Oss (F)
FC Volendam (F) vs Heracles Almelo (F)
Stormvogels Telstar (F) vs FC Dordrecht (F)
Wednesday, 20:00 CET
ADO '20 (A) vs NAC Breda (E)
NEC (E) vs FC Twente (E)
FC Den Bosch vs Vitesse (E)
Young Feyenoord (R) vs RKC Waalwijk (E)
BV Veendam (F) vs Willem II (E)
Immediately after Wednesday's games it's time for the draw for the fourth round, which is the round in which the 'European' teams (Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, SC Heerenveen, AZ, FC Utrecht) will enter the competition. The games for the fourth round are scheduled for Tu 25/We 26 and Thu 27 January 2005.
A news report about Ajax's opponent will appear on Ajax USA on Wednesday night, immediately after the draw.

Tonight's third round results...
(the bold names are the winners and potential fourth round opponents for Ajax)
ADO Den Haag vs Emmen 3-1
Go Ahead Eagles vs Roda JC 2-0
Helmond Sport vs TOP Oss 2-4 after extra time
FC Volendam vs Heracles Almelo 3-1
Stormvogels Telstar vs FC Dordrecht 0-2
The major upset is, of course, Roda's elimination by Go Ahead Eagles, a club I've always had much sympathy for. I hope we'll get them, preferably away at the great 'Eagles' Nest' in Deventer!
Fourth round draw will take place after tomorrow night's games!

I always liked Go Ahead Eagles, maybe cause of their cool name...and Marc Overmars came from there (and the great Victor Sikora of course).
Volendam would also be a nice draw, a local team in a cosy little town (I went there in the summer).
As long as it's not ADO away, that would be crap. And Dordrecht is a potentially dangerous team, razor-sharp on the counter attack.

I just watched the draw for the fourth round (a.k.a. the 'round of sixteen') of the Amstel Cup live on SBS6 TV. Games to be played on either Tuesday 25 or Wednesday 26 January 2005. Here you go:
AJAX - SC Heerenveen
AZ - Feyenoord
PSV - FC Volendam
NAC Breda - FC Utrecht
Go Ahead Eagles - Willem II
ADO Den Haag - FC Twente
FC Dordrecht - FC Den Bosch
TOP Oss - RKC Waalwijk
Pretty tough opponent, obviously... Could have been better. But at least it's a home game. An away game against a First Division side would have been nicer, though.
Safe bet that F-Word are not too pleased with their draw...
Anyway: news report will appear on Ajax USA tomorrow. Time for bed now.

Kind of disappointed about tonight's results. Obviously I didn't expect anything of Volendam in Eindhoven (4-0 PSV; all goals scored between 37' and 52'), but I was seriously hoping for an Eagles stunt against Willem II (nope, 0-1 Willem II; 79' own goal) and I even kind of expected Dordrecht to stuff Den Bosch (nope, 1-3 Den Bosch).
Three out of four First Division teams are out. And I'm sure RKC will have no probs against TOP Oss (they are shit). So far for the fun opponents... Bummer. I was kind of hoping for Dordrecht or Eagles in the quarter final...
Oh well. Let's just focus on Heerenveen. Tough enough already.

The draw for the next round will be immediately after tomorrow night's fixture.
Quarter finals will be on 01 March (all four of 'em on the same night according to Amstelcup.nl), semi finals on 19 April, final in Rotterdam on 29 May.
