He had his first 40 minutes of official Ajax-1 action, but he didn't have his own discussion thread yet. Now he has one: this is the place to discuss Hans Vonk, our third goalkeeper, who's already seen more first team action than his predecessor Sander Boschker. And I have a feeling we will see more of him.

By the way: Hans Vonk sounds 100% Dutch and Dutch, but he is actually South-African - and plays for Bafana Bafana (the South-African national team).

i've always liked his ability to command the area - certainly not the shot stopper that lobum or stek are, but he does cover a lot of area with that frame

not that i was happy lobont got hurt (and it looked quite painful from my seat), but those who know me know i was very pleased to see vonk - i did wish bogdan injury after the first goal, but that was as a strangulation daydream - anyway, i have been calling for vonk to get a run and will be very pleased to see more of him - the more calming influence in the side, the better

Stekelenburg...? Post #3

Okay - here's something that annoys me a lot...

If the press is to be believed, Ronald Koeman will drop Hans Vonk (for some mysterious reason) and play Stekelenburg. That to me, is a typical Koeman decision: taken completely out of nowhere and for no logical reason. I mean: Vonk did well, didn't he? At least he coaches the defenders. He doesn't do any weird things (like Boggy) and he doesn't panic (like Stekelenburg).

Moreover, wasn't Ronald Koeman the man who wanted to 'officially' announce his goalkeeper for the season?

I thought that was nonsense in the first place. I mean, you don't issue a press release to announce your right winger for the season either, do you? Yeah, said Koeman, but a goalkeeper is a different thing: a goalkeeper needs the faith of a coach, he needs to know that he is the number one, yada yada.

Yeah right - he announced a goalie in August, and less than five months later he changes his mind for the third time (!). He dropped Stekelenburg for Boggy, then Boggy for Vonk and now Vonk for Stekelenburg. What's next: all three of 'em on the stands and Kenneth Vermeer getting the nod?

What's the f#cking point??? He's making a total idiot out of himself. Every player now knows that it doesn't mean anything if Ronald Koeman expresses his faith in you. He may change his mind any second of the day.

It's bad enough already that our coach is a twister, but at least he should be realistic about and not announce decisions for the whole season. What he's doing now is more like an attempt to make it to the Guinness Book of Records as the football coach to have used the highest number of goalkeepers in one season!

Unbelievable.

I agree. Play Vonk unless he loses form. I can't see where Stekelenberg has done anyhing positive which would warrant his jumping over Vonk.

To me it's not even about Vonk or Stekelenburg. I prefer Vonk, but Stekelenburg is good also. Or Lobont. Whatever.

It's about Koeman. It annoys me that the only position he insisted to appoint someone for for the duration of the whole season (namely: the position of goalkeeper), is also the position he changed his mind about more frequently than about any other position.

What annoys me is that Koeman is a twister.

The good news: Hans Vonk will be ingoal on Sunday. Koeman confirmed this during today's press conference.

The bad news: This makes Koeman even more of a twister than he already was - and it only proves my point. Check this quote (from Ajax.nl):

"Vonk will be in goal. I recently said that we were going to revert to Maarten Stekelenburg, but on second thought I feel the time is not right for that. This is a strictly technical decision. I will give no further comment on it right now."

Right, it was actually his plan to revert to Stekelenburg, but now he decides not to. Which means that these are 'goalkeeper changes' #3 and #4!!

Anyway - Vonk will play and Rosales is also expected to be fit (which is unexpected and very good news indeed).
