Charisteas's idol is Marco van Basten. Now he can follow Basten's success here.He can make some key scores. This is what we need.
Good luck !

Let's hope it's "third time lucky" on the Greek Striker front.....

Angel will be a starter for the dutch league. But what about UEFA cup?
Babel as starter there will be very interesting to watch though. But still i have to agree with Manneken Pis

AT5 did some research and found that our man bagged 5 doels in 373 minutes for Bremen.AT5 says this is 1 biscuit every 78 minutes. Must be new Dutch math. I find this rate more like 1 every 74+ minutes. I would definitely settle for a goal every 74+ minutes.

And if he can set up another 1/game, that would be fantastic. Think of all the goals Rosales could end up with if he gets good balls fed to him from just outside the 18.

Charisteas was officially presented to the press this morning, immediately after his first training session with Ajax. It was also announced that he will wear jersey number 9, like a central forward should. He is, indeed, Zlatan Ibrahimovic's successor.

That is too soon to say out loud.

Talent sense ,I agree with Earth. Positionally, I agree with AFCA 1900. Hoping a taller three- headed monster of Charisteas / Babel / Anastasiou, taller than one with Sonck as a striker, will create match-up headaches for opponents. At least Charisteas made it through a training session.Sonck is still hurt and can't train yet. No wonder people are banging the door down for him...NOT!

Are we sure it's not just his ego that's hurt???

Okay - I've seen our man in action for the first time - and I must say it was promising.
He didn't score, but I was impressed by several other things.
1. his attitude.
He was chasing Utrecht's defenders constantly (they panicked and rocketed the ball into the stands several times) and got stuck in on every high ball. He gave the Utrecht defense tons of work and must have been a real pain in the arse for them.
2. his understanding of Ajax's play
Now this is the main reason why I think he'll be fine. He seemed to understand the Ajax system completely. He was making the right runs, dropped back at the right moments, held on to the ball when he had to, tapped it back or flicked it on when he had to- and in almost every case he displayed the skill that is required for an Ajax striker. This guy gets it - and that's more than what we could say about Sonck, or even Zlatan in his first season.
I never really followed Charisteas in the past, but I think I know now what player type he is: he is an Anastasiou type player, except that he jumps higher, runs faster and (most importantly) thinks faster.
In my opinion he had a satisfying début.
As for his nickname 'Harry': thank god it has not yet been adopted by the Ajax fans. I think it's a typical Kraut invention (bad sense of humour) and an extremely silly nickname indeed. A proper nickname will bubble up sooner or later, but please let's ditch the Harry thing.
