Brutil Hosé keeps the faith...
After having displayed the crappiest attitude in the world at Ajax, De Graafschap and FC Haarlem, he failed to win a contract at Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Dutch First Division side FC Dordrecht. Right now, he has joined First Division side Sparta Rotterdam for a try-out. He does not train with the first team, but with Young Sparta Rotterdam, the reserves team.
It's not even a real try-out. Hosé asked Frank Franken, board member of technical affairs at Sparta, whether he could join Sparta just for fitness reasons. Sparta said 'okay', but there is no professional contract to win for Hosé. Neither will he play for Sparta's first team on an amateur basis.
Sparta coach Dolf Roks, however, says: "I never say never. We'll see what his level of fitness is like. He'll train with us for a while and then we'll just see what happens."
My God... He felt too good for the Ajax bench, but he was kicked out of De Graafschap, Young De Graafschap, Haarlem and Young Haarlem. Then FC Dordrecht (an even crappier side than Haarlem) did not want him and now he's in training for zero euros at Young Sparta... Is this guy a LOSER or what??
Maybe good old Stanley Menzo has a spot for him, at AGOVV (amateur side who are doing well in the Amstel Cup).

Speaking of former Ajax players, does anyone know how many of the Dutch national team members have played for Ajax?

Bad news on a not-so-famous, but apparently succesful ex-Ajacied: Clyde Wijnhard.

I did not know he played for Oldham, I must admit. Seems like maybe he'll never play for Oldham or any other team again...

According to the latest news, former Ajax player Arie Haan has become the new head coach of China National Team. There had been lots of rumour about who the next head coach would be, and Adriaanse (which was my favourite) was one of the contenders along with Willem Van Hanegem and Troussier. I think that the reason that the Chinese Football Association are so keen on signing a Dutch coach was because of the success of Hiddink in South Korea, and because Phillipes, the sponsor of CFA, is willing to pay all the salary if the coach is a Dutchman.
Are any of you familiar with this Arie Haan? I know very little about him other than some basic information I read on some Chinese media. So I would like to hear some comments from Dutch soccer fans.

Arie Haan's assignment as the new national coach of China has been confirmed in the Dutch media, too.
Most Dutch footy fans only remember Arie Haan by his absolutely amazing, 200 km/hour long range shots. I think he scored three goals that way for Holland during the World Cup in Argentina '78 (against West-Germany, Scotland and Italy, I think). Two of 'em were from 30 yards or even more.
He was a defender/midfielder in the 'Golden Ajax' team of the early 1970s. He won three European Cups in a row with Ajax. He played the full game in 1972 and 1973. In the first one, in 1971, he came on as a substitute and scored Ajax' second against Panathinaikos at Wembley (2-0, 86th minute).
He moved on to play in Belgium, for Anderlecht and Standard Liege, before playing one final year (hell, I didn't know this!) for p$V eindhoven.
As a coach, I am pretty sure that he was rather succesful at VfB Stuttgart in Germany (didn't he win the UEFA Cup with them?). His last job before signing for China was technical director of VfB's city rivals, Stuttgarter Kickers (who are, by the way, known as the Yids of Germany, just like Spurs in England and Ajax in Holland).
That's what I know. Here's a nice, basic little factfile on Arie Haan:

For those interested...
* Former Ajax goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, now playing for Fulham and of course Oranje, will be sidelined for about four weeks. He broke a little footbone when he collided with Alan Shearer during last weekend's Premiership game against Newcastle United.
* Former Vitesse and Ajax midfielder John van den Brom (36), now playing for De Graafschap, has announced that this season will be his last. The midfielder lost his spot in De Graafschap's starting line-up and is usually on the bench, or even left out of the squad. He will start a career as a coach, at Dutch amateur side Bennekom to begin with.

In Holland, New Year's Day is traditionally the day of the annual friendly game between the Royal HFC (Holland's oldest football club) and a team of former ORanje players. The 70th edition of this traditional game was played yesterday, in Haarlem. The Royal HFC (from Haarlem) was better: 5-2.
The goals for 'Old Oranje' were scored by former Ajacieden John Bosman and Simon Tahamata (the latter from a penalty). The other former Ajax players in the 'Old Oranje' line-up were Stanley Menzo, Hennie Meijer, Dick Schoenaker, Sonny Silooy, Arnold Mühren and Bryan Roy. For Bosman and Roy it was their first game in the 'Old Oranje' team.

We are now happy to announce that Sparta, currently 12th in the First Division, has offered Brutil Hosé a contract. Seems like he finally convinced a club of his qualities! Or... not quite, really, since he's been signed on an amateur basis (he makes no cash!).
What a career!

I know Ajax USA has quite a few German members and/or regular visitors, and I know at least one of them (Casablanca) has already found his way to our new discussion forums, so...
... here's a very nice article on Nando Rafaël (in German), from Morgenpost.de:
http://morgenpost.berlin1.de/inhalt...tory574599.html
If you don't exactly remember the sad Nando Rafaël story, read this:

Former Ajax right back Michael Reiziger is about to sign a contract with Manchester City. The fee for the transfer is estimated to 6M euros.

Short announcement on NOS Teletekst:
Ferdi Vierklau has decided to call it quits. He's only 29 years of age, but has been dealing with persistent, chronic injuries for several years now. Vierklau played for FC Utrecht, Vitesse and Ajax. His contract in Amsterdam was dissolved on 01 October of last year:
