23 April 1978. He debuts with the rossoneri seventeen years old, a defender unknown refused from the inter. From that day the story of Frank Baresi is the story of the Milan. In little years it becomes one of the strongest defenders of the championship. Under the leader of Liedholm assimilates the starts of the game to zone like best interpreter of the role of last man. With a great capability of leding the team. After he won a scudetto, goes through the dark years of the society: the soccer bets and the demotion in Serie B staying always to its place of captain and not accepting the numerous offers of the other club. Also for this he is so loved from milanisti, and they dedicated him the banner: "Stay with us". With Beckenbauer was one of the little defenders to be candidates to the ball of gold. In sixteen years Baresi put together the personal palmares richer of all the Milan of all of the times. Flag also of the Italian National Team, "the captain" disputed 81 entries with the blue knitting winning, like reserve of Scirea, the World Cup of 1982.

- Our system, in holland we are for some strage reason always stick to he 4-3-3 system, luckily advocaat looks like he's beginning to understand that's not the best system for the players we have, we should play 3-5-2, or 4-4-2..
Yeah,
I'm begining to also think that the 4-3-3 is becoming - dare I say this - obsolete ??
In international competitions, of course. Because I'm an Ajacied, (or for that matter, a Dutch football fan), I will always prefer and want to see teams playing 4-3-3 but I acknowledge that such formation puts tremendous pressure on especially positions no.9 & no.10. VERY few players can play the system. Also very vulnerable to counter-attacks.
Quote: - And offcourse our penalty trauma, I really don't know how that happened, we were always great at penalties, but since 1992 (van basten missed) it's really been a trauma, 96: seedorf, 98: cocu, de boer, 00: de boer, kluivert, stam, bosveldt..
That's one advantage of not qualifying for World Cup 2002, we could not be knocked out trough penalties
BUT in '95 Blind scored on the spot....and Ajax wins the World Club Championship !!!
That aside, (realising that this can be a long, drawn out debate), had we (Oranje) notched in those damn penalties in the semis against Italia, we could have gone on the greatness, won the 2nd Euro Cup and gave the team amuch needed CONFIDENCE boost and on to greater achievements.
Just look at France during WC98 - very similar to Holland. Plenty of skills but needed just that catalyst to bring them to THE NEXT LEVEL. And that was exactly what happened for France - in the form of a mysterious seizure by a fellow named Ronaldo, just hours before the final - and the rest is history...
(Sob) It could very well have been Holland...

Yeah, I think Holland just needs someone to pull the whole thing together, like Ronald Coleman in 88.

Coleman?
I think you mean Koeman
But in '88 we had a lot of luck balls on the post of the oppenents, stange goal of kieft against ireland and we also had a great van Basten, who was by far the best player in the world that moment (while he just returned from a heavy injury, just like Ronaldo this year)

Yes, I meant Koeman, thanks for the correction Sith. Maybe you can correct the same mis-spelling I made on another post :D I absolutely agree that Van Basten was on top of his game then, but I think Koeman was the leader of that team, maybe not the brightest of stars since they had Gullit and Rijcaard too, but he was a leader that settled down the team. Anyways, it was a great team then.

No actually I think Gullit was the leader back then, he was also the captain and was regarded the best player then (van basten mainly became that great after 88)
But Koeman was an incredible player who led PSV to the EC1 in 88. and later Barcelona to the EC1... but I just said this in an other topic about Colema.. ehh Koeman
Anyway it was a great team, and it's to bad Rijkaard could not control himself at WC '90 or we would have been world champions.

haha...good one sith, you got me good partner. Yeah, Gullit was great and always has been. I just loved his playing style, so loose yet so precise.
That spitting contest was a shame for Frank, they would've had a good chance although if I remember correctly, they barely made it out of the group stage with three ties against England, Egypt and Ireland...correct me if I'm wrong...again :D

No you are wright but we played very good against Germany... untill the red cards for Rijkaard and Voller, which turned out to positive for Germany
And since none of the teams were impressive (England sucked, Italy sucked, Argentina sucked, Germany sucked) Holland would have probably won, but we will never know

Like Klose, I think schillaci was a fluke! No offense to the Moderator here :D It's just my point of view. I thought Baggio should've been given the best player award that year. Without him, No. 19 in blue would've probably scored 1 goal. I think I'm building up a reputation for pointing out players like that. Klose is so over-rated! And so is Kluivert! Ok, don't kill me now guys

In 1990, was Baresi the captain or was it Bergomi? I never get that one right.
