Newspaper Het Parool reports that Abubakari Yakubu may well join Pius Ikedia at FC Groningen. The Ghanese defender, who played an excellent game against AS Roma, does not get to play in Ajax-1 very frequently. Half a season at Groningen, on loan, seems to be an option.

Meanwhile, several Dutch media have reported that Ronald Koeman has told Jan van Halst that he can go and search for a new club.

Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reports that Belgian First Class side AA Ghent, coached by former Young Ajax boss Jan Olde Riekerink, is interested in signing Ajacied Jan van Halst (33) during the winter-break. Van Halst was a regular for Ajax in the 2001-2002 season, but lost his spot in the team this year and is now usually left out of the squad. Ajax coach Ronald Koeman reportedly told Van Halst that he can go if he wants to. Van Halst's contract with Ajax expires at season's end and will almost certainly not be extended.

Don't you hate the idea (the idea only) of him leaving for Real Madrid ?
I mean where's the challenge if they buy each good player on earth ???

Anyway, their dominion isn't even that impressive, like their style of playing.

On the other side I realize that he deserves such a championship, as he's made his time @ Ajax...

I wish him the best, whatever destiny awaits him.

I see your point - and I agree. I have no respect for clubs that don't do anything else than buying, buying, buying. Barcelona and Real Madrid have bought an Ajax team and a half in recent years. F*ck that. Discover and develop something yourselves.

I'm going completely and utterly off-topic now, but hey - whatever...

One thing is kind of weird: many football fans (English, particularly) Man Utd seem to regard Man-U as the epitome of a buying club. "Man Utd = cash, cash, cash and nothing but cash." And they hate Man-U for it.

I don't agree and that's why I don't particularly hate Man-U. It's probably the only club in the current top five of Europe that actually scouted and developed a considerable number of their most famous players from recent years: Beckham, Scholes and Giggs, for example - they all come from the Man-U youth ranks. Which (to me) makes Man-U more of a football club than Real Madrid or Barcelona. Chelsea and the Arse are a lot worse than Man-U.

Even more off-topic...

Although I don't really 'support' any clubs outside of Holland, I do have sort of a vague sympathy for one particular club in every country. For no rational reason. In England, it would be Spurs. But I don't check their results and I don't care if they lose or something. It's just that if I happen to see them on TV, I hope they win. If you watch a football game, no matter where or from what country (even if it's in Tibet), you tend to automatically 'choose' for a team and root for them. That's what you do if you watch a sports game, to make it more fun.

Here's my list of teams I have a 'vague' sympathy' for (what are yours?):

England: Tottenham Hotspur
Germany: HSV Hamburg
France: Paris St. Germain
Italy: Genoa
Spain: Atletico Madrid
Portugal: Sporting Lisbon
Scotland: Celtic

You should explain your point of view to a lot of people ! The basic football fan always support the richest team... He thinks it's normal, this club derserve it because it has got good players and it wins.... I tryed to explain them the club have any merit to win : buy all good players is too easy when you have the money for it... But they don't want to change their opinion...

But there are some clubs like Ajax who can prove that money is not enough. I hope it will continue for a long time and they will do better !

Hotspurs -> You're deep in jewish clubs aren't you ??? ;)
First of all, a bit of history :

Before 1970 PSG didn't exist....It is the typical club
created by medias and $$$$$$.......No history no culture, ****ing racist supporters, one coach a year, an internal crisis a year...I HATE that club like millions of my french mates.

Woooohh I feel better now, here's my list :

Arsenal in UK (sorry but Bergkamp is God for me)
Malaga in spain (for Musampa...I love him, he played in France)

Can german football be called football

Italy : I dunno whom I prefer but I know whom I hate :
Juventus FC.....please stop stealing us Champion's league, doping your players, cheating, biasing referees etc....I DON'T like them...
I kinda like this year Milan AC (mainly for Seedorf and Rivaldo.....all my friends kept telling me that Clarence was dire...I'm so happy now kicking their ass:D ) but it is definitely not risky to say that.

I prefer Glasgow Rangers (many Ajax oldies played there...)

In France i am more of a Marseille supporter, but not really involved, that championship doesn't excite me at all.

Been seeing a lot of these quite strange remarks lately on wheather clubs are jewish or not.......feels kinda´ strange. Like I'm only supporting clubs with mothers that¨s got one arm - has the exact same relevance in the subject.

Actually, I already instinctively went for Spurs when I didn't even know about that yet...

But now I know, I do feel an extra connection with Spurs because of the Yids thing. Most definitely. My irrational choice for a particular team in a particular country usually has nothing to do with the number of former Ajacieden playing there.

In the case of Genoa (Italy) it was because Ajax played against them in the semi-final of 1992. The section of Genoa fans still is one of the most beautiful looking and noisiest visitors' sections I have ever seen. They were also very nice. I swapped scarves with an extremely beautiful Italian girl. Since that day, I kind of 'support' Genoa. Which didn't help, as I believe they're in the Serie C now (or B) - and I really wouldn't know how they're doing.

In most other cases (Spurs, Celtic, Hamburger SV, Paris St. Germain) I reall don't know why I like those sides more than the others from that particular country. No reason whatsoever.

Sorry Per but don't try to lead me where I have never wanted to go.....I know that Tottenham Hotspurs is historically a jewish club (like Ajax Amsterdam) so I just did this joke as I could have said "Well you're deep in first division clubs aren"t you....That's all.

Sometimes you can't find nothing between the lines sorry.

In Germany I prefer Bayer 04 Leverkusen, for no reason except that I dislike Bayern Munich.

In Scotland I prefer Rangers because of their tradition of being supported by Protestants(which is gone now).

In England, no real sympathy.

In Italy, dislike all of the top clubs.

Ditto for Spain.

It's not gone. Absolutely not, I can assure you. In the summer of 2000 I met a Weegie (Glaswegian) in Las Vegas who supported Rangers. He proudly showed me his No surrender to the IRA tattoo. A year later, I was invited by a group of Celtic fans from Dunfermline to join them to the Celtic vs Ajax game, on their supporters' bus. I remember the moment that I first started paying attention to the lyrics of the songs they were playing. They were all heroic songs about joining the IRA and showing absolutely no mercy. Celtic and Rangers fans still refer to each other as 'Tims' and 'Huns'. The religious thing is not gone - and it never will be (unfortunately).

Believe me: you don't even want to get into that stuff. It's sooooo complex. Someone who says that he likes Celtic because they're catholic, or Rangers because they're protestant, is - per definition - simplifying the story, and thinking much too lightly about many, many ugly centuries of hatred, war, blood and bitterness.

It's not as simple (neither is Ajax' Jewish thing, btw, which is also far too complex to simply say 'yes' or 'no' to it).

Just watch the footie.

hm, our discussion is just a little bit off-topic, but I want to tell you out there in the world my favourite teams:

England: Arsenal
Germany: of course => Borussia Mönchengladbach
Italy: Juve

But now my question: Can you tell me news about Chivu? Is he leaving ?

Almost certainly, yes, but: at season's end - and not during the winter break. All of a sudden, transfer rumors during the winter seem to have come in fashion, but a player walking out on his club halfway through the season is very unusual and - moreover - very disrespectful towards your club, coach and colleagues. I am abslutely sure that Chivu will not do this (and that Ajax will not cooperate on a transfer at this point).

But I think it's a 100% case at season's end. It's going to be either Real Madrid or Barcelona for Cris. And he deserves it. He's played at Ajax for four seasons, he did not run away after one bad season (nor did he walk away after two, or three). He stayed, because he wanted to win trophies with Ajax and play in the Champions League with Ajax. Now he's won two trophies and he's now having a great Champions League season with Ajax. After that, he chooses to move on, which I don't blame him for at all.

If every Ajax player would stay as long as Cristian Chivu and create as much love for Ajax as he did, then there would be no 'post-Bosman Ruling' problems for Ajax whatsoever. I wish him all the best.

He'll finish the season. Don't worry.

He's one of our best players, but this Ajax team is good over-all. We've booked (or consolidated) some of our most important victories without him (Lyon-away, Roma at home). He's not irreplaceable.

According to persistent rumors, Frank de Boer will return to Ajax next year, as his contract at Barcelona is expiring. My feeling is that it's true and that he will cme back.

Hatem Trabelsi - Frank de Boer - André Bergdølmo - John O'Brien.

Not a bad defense line, I would say, especially when you have the luxury of having Nigel de Jong, Jelle Van Damme, Petri Pasanen and Johnny Heitinga available as stand-ins, who all played some great Champions League football for Ajax. That's a high quality defense, in my opinion.
