One point that I always have trouble meshing with my Ajax filled emotions is..
Ajax is a publicly traded company with stock, annual reports, projections and ultimately shareholders to answer to. That brings the bottom line down to one thing... CASH!! That's why they would sell Zlatan and probably not even get a replacement. Yes, it would suck for us. Yes, Ajax fans would revolt... but the board does not answer to us. The shareholders would be happy... and in the world of finance, that's what counts.
It sucks, I don't like it, I would be pissed... but it doesn't matter. That's the difference between a public company and a privately owned club. Make no mistake about it, Ajax exists to make money.

i disagree about the not getting a replacement part. in that scenario, it would be financially irresponsible not to get a replacement. there is the possibility of said replacement earning back his transfer fee in the CL and by winning the championship.
even if they broke even with the transfer, it would expose ajax more so to the world for marketing purposes.

From a financial perspective... if Ajax is standing on the corner with 45 million Euros hanging out of their pockets, the price of strikers is going up. Financial irresponsibility would be to pay a marked up fee for Tevez or some other schmo just to fill a uniform. Trust me, modern day Ajax is about the bottom line, they will not pay a marked up transfer fee or even a high one.
As for the CL; realistically, even with Zlatan it will be a monumental struggle to get thru the group stage. IMO, We got the toughest draw and our defense is shaky. Ajax may well be thinking that a guaranteed amount now is better than rolling the dice in the CL.
I don't like what I'm saying any more than any other Ajax supporter. It's just the cold truth.

If it weren't for the timing of the offer, 15 million (or whatever the exact number is) might be a good starting point. But given the fact that Zlatan is a key component, if not the most crucial one, in a team that has the potential to go a long, long way in the CL, this offer should not be entertained.
Another way to look at it is to consider the value that the team would get over the next X number of months by keeping Zlatan. If Zlatan goes berserk in the CL and Ajax makes it to the quarterfinals, the team would make significant amounts of money off their presence in the CL alone, to say nothing of all the increased marketing opportunities that come with the exposure. Ajax should (hopefully) consider the possibility of lost revenue due to Zlatan's absence and factor that into the asking price.
Sell him for 15 million now, and all you've earned is 15 million bucks. Sell him for 15 million later, and you've earned all that stuff I mentioned above plus the 15 million. Which is why, in the case of a player as pivotal as Zlatan, the Ajax board shouldn't even consider whiping its ass with such a low-ball offer. They can get him for that much later and get the benefit of his services for several months. And I can't imagine that, if Zlatan starts making Italian defenders his beeyotch in the CL, it won't pump his value up a little.
So, in conclusion, the board should tell Roma to **** off unless they show up in an armored car with 50 million euros in unmarked, nonsequential bills.

Good point, I guess you're right. But we're still gonna make a huge "profit" off him compared to what we paid for him. As well as being better off footballistically. I reckon it's worth losing a few million euros profit to keep him here another season.

I have just read that Ajax director of finance has received no offer from Roma and also states that Roma have not paid all the money for Chivu.
I think we can look forward to Zlatan here for this season. As for Roma well this week last year I said they haven't the money for Chivu and I am right.
Ajax must insist they never talk to Roma again about transfers. When will anybody stop these so called big clubs from trying to buy players when they are bankrupt?

I've read this on FootballNL, but it's Arie van Eijden, General Manager, who told this. But some days ago he was in hospital, and FootballNL is not really reliable, so I wonder if it's true... but if it is, that's sure, Zlatan will stay !

Since dw1200 hasn't cured your urge for wisdom I thought I'd let you in the know. I believe it's a lyric from Monster Magnet, don't remember the song title but it's from an album quite long ago, and the song if I remember it correctly is quite good. I don't like MM unconditionally but some songs really stick.

I am not a huge Monster Magnet fan but I just always thought their lyrics were interesting. They pushed the envelope... (and of course listening to them while huffing whippets helped)

I have so much to learn in the ways of music from you guys. Personally, I've become a bit jaded when it comes to music over the last few years.
Anyway: back on topic. Zlatan totally rocks and I hope Ajax don't sell him for anything less than 100 gazillion euros, which is what we all know is true value is. Anything less would be highway robbery.

I hope Hugo Borst was simply engaged in windbaggery on Studio Voetbal.According to posts on three different websites,Mr. Borst says Ajax are looking 15 million for Zlatan...and that Kone' and Rosales will be signed by Ajax.Kone' to replace Zlatan? If there's a kernel of truth...IF...I only like the Rosales part.Unless Tevez follows in the Argentine invasion.

Ladies and gentlemen (ouch, this hurts...), please discuss Zlatan's transfer to Juventus in the Players Leaving Ajax thread:
http://www.soccerpages.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12431
Once we've all gotten used to seeing Zlatan pay football in a black and white jersey, you can post your memories and "how's he doing these days?" updates to the Former Ajax Players thread.
